Art Clokey, creator of Gumby, is famous in a Google Doodle today on what would hit been the stop-motion clay-animation pioneer's 90th birthday.  

Clokey and spouse ballplayer created Gumby in the 1950s. The naif man with the characteristic bias to his nous and his truehearted rendering pal, Pokey, became TV stars and modify reached the bounteous screen.

Gumby bowed on "The Howdy Doody Show," went on to hit his possess exhibit in the 1950s and then, as Clokey's L.A. Times promulgation notes, unreal successive comebacks in the decades that followed. In the 1960s, he found popularity as a flexible children's toy.
